I have the honour to acknowledge Your Excel-

-lency's letter of 12th. instant on the subject of the

Registry.

With reference to paragraph 2, I confess to

being a little puzzled as to its meaning. I should be glad

to know whether Your Excellency intended to convey to me

the fact that you disbelieve the statements that I have

made, but believe those made by Mr. Seth. I am unwilling to

think that this is Your Excellency's meaning; but should it

unfortunately be Your Excellency's meaning I have the

honour to request an interview with Your Excellency be-

-fore the papers go home to the Secretary of State.

3. With reference to paragraph 3, the position

Essumed by Your Excellency which I intimated was 'entirely

satisfactory' related to the question of the Registry.
